You may call us at 800-908-4490 for specialized assistance, Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. your local time (Alaska & Hawaii follow Pacific Time), to have your IP PIN reissued to you. An assistor will verify your identity and mail your IP PIN to your address of record within 21 days.
How do I change my address to get my stimulus check?
You can update your address in five ways:
- In-person by visiting a local IRS office.
- By calling 1-800-829-1040 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
- By filing Form 8822, Change of Address.
- By using your new address on your next tax return.
- By mailing a written statement to the location you’d normally file your tax return.
Where do I get my identity protection pin?
We will use the telephone number provided on the Form 15227 to call you, validate your identity and assign you an IP PIN for the next filing season. For security reasons, the IP PIN cannot be used for the current filing season. You will receive your IP PIN via the U.S. Postal Service the following year and in the future.
What to do if you lose your IP pin?
If you receive the annual IP PIN via mail but lose or fail to receive your CP01A Notice, you may use the Get an IP PIN tool to retrieve your number. Review Retrieve Your IP PIN for details. Do not file a Form 15227 to apply for a new IP PIN.
How do I get an IP pin from the IRS?
Taxpayers eligible for the IP PIN Opt-In Program must use the online Get an IP PIN tool. If you do not already have an account on IRS.gov, you must register to validate your identity. Before attempting to register, read about the secure access identity authentication process. Taxpayers cannot obtain an IP PIN by calling the IRS.
When do I need to get an IP pin?
If you are assigned or if you request an IP PIN, you must use it to confirm your identity on any tax returns filed electronically during the calendar year. A new IP PIN is generated for each filing season and can be retrieved starting in mid-January of each year by logging into the account you create.
