(updated March 13, 2021) Once we receive your payment back, you may be able to provide your bank account information in Get My Payment to have your payment reissued as a direct deposit. If this is the case, then Get My Payment will show “Need More Information,” usually two to three weeks after the payment is issued.
What happens if I send a third stimulus check to the wrong bank?
The IRS says that if it sends your third stimulus check to the bank account it has on file for you and that account has been closed (or the bank account details are otherwise invalid), the bank will automatically return the funds to the IRS, at which point the agency will mail a physical check to you at the address they have on file for you.
