Inspired by Scripture and Catholic Social Teaching, and the experiences and hopes of people living in poverty, CAFOD works for a safe, sustainable and peaceful world.
What did CAFOD do?
CAFOD are an international development charity and the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. They reach out to people living in poverty with practical help, whatever their religion or culture.
What does CAFOD do and why?
CAFOD aims to strengthen communities’ and partners’ response to disasters and link its relief and development work. CAFOD prioritises work through local church organisations as they have a permanent presence in the country and a country-wide structure which is rooted in local communities.

How does CAFOD help poor?
We stand beside people living in poverty – whatever their religion or culture. Through local Church partners, we help people directly in their own communities, and campaign for global justice, so that everyone can reach their full potential.
Which countries does CAFOD help?
CAFOD currently has programmes in 32 countries and has offices in Cambodia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Goma and Kinshasa), Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Myanmar (Burma), Nicaragua, Niger, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Sudan and Zimbabwe.

Some of the things that CAFOD does to help victims of war include: helping to rehabilitate children who have fought as soldiers in war, offering them education, counselling and support. providing refugees fleeing conflict with emergency aid, such as food, shelter and cooking equipment.
