What is a single question?

Writer Isabella Wilson

Single-Selection, or Single Answer Questions are questions where a user is asked to pick only one answer from a pre-determined set of responses of two or more options. They are one of the most common survey question types and are effective in determining a user’s primary preference among a set of choices.

What is a question with only one answer?

It is called a factual question. Because the answer is a fact rather than a subjective opinion.

What are the types of questions in a questionnaire?

Types of survey questions

  • Multiple choice questions.
  • Rating scale questions.
  • Likert scale questions.

  • Open-ended questions.
  • Demographic questions.
  • Ranking questions.

What are closed-ended questions?

Closed-ended questions are questions that can only be answered by selecting from a limited number of options, usually multiple-choice, ‘yes’ or ‘no’, or a rating scale (e.g. from strongly agree to strongly disagree). Closed-ended questions give limited insight, but can easily be analyzed for quantitative data.

What are convergent questions?

Convergent questions are those that typically have one correct answer, while divergent questions, also called open-ended questions, are used to encourage many answers and generate greater participation of students.

Why are closed-ended questions used?

Close ended questions are defined as question types that ask respondents to choose from a distinct set of pre-defined responses, such as “yes/no” or among set multiple choice questions. In a typical scenario, closed-ended questions are used to gather quantitative data from respondents.

What are examples of convergent questions?

Convergent questions typically start with “who,” “what,” “where” or “when.” Divergent questions usually begin with “how could,” “what might” or “suppose.”

Why are closed questions good?

Easy and quick to answer. Response choice can clarify the question text for the respondent. Improves consistency of responses. Easy to compare with other respondents or questionnaires.

What is a choice question?

Multiple choice questions—also known as fixed choice or selected response items—require students to identify right answers from among a set of possible options that are presented to them.

How are single line free text questions done?

Single-line free text questions allow respondents to enter their answer into a text box that is restricted to one line of text. You can set the width of the text box as well as the number of characters that can be entered. You can also restrict the format in which an answer can be submitted, for example a number, valid email address or post code.

Can a single textbox question be used in a survey?

The Single Textbox question allows you to collect short open-ended answers from respondents. You can also validate the question to require answers in a specific length or format. To add this question type: Drag and drop Single Textbox into your survey from the BUILDER section.

What does single answer mean on a survey?

They allow respondents to pick just one answer from a list of given options.  The “single answer” label refers to the number of answers that a respondent can select – for this question type a respondent can only select a single answer from a list of answer options.

What are the different types of text questions?

A text question is similar to a comment box, but the data to be entered is generally regulated and requires validation. This type of question has three sub-types: Single row text: One line of text can be inputted, for example, house address. Numeric textbox: Only numbers can be entered.
