Fee-for-service is a system of health insurance payment in which a doctor or other health care provider is paid a fee for each particular service rendered, essentially rewarding medical providers for volume and quantity of services provided, regardless of the outcome.
What is included in fee-for-service?
The fee-for-service reimbursement model is the traditional and most commonly used healthcare model in recent decades. In this model, healthcare providers charge based on individual services rendered (i.e. appointments, treatments, tests ordered, prescriptions given).
