Whats the earliest you can submit tax return?

Each year, the IRS issues a statement in early January with the first day to file taxes. Typically, the official date when you can file taxes falls in mid to late January. January 2021 update: The IRS announced it will start processing tax returns Feb. 12.

Can I file my taxes early?

If you owe a balance due to the IRS, you may still have a good reason to file your tax return as soon as you can. If you submit your return in the middle of January, you do not have to pay taxes you owe until the filing deadline. Preparing your Form 1040 early will give you time to arrange your payment.

Is tax return accepted the same as approved?

Not yet. Accepted means your tax return is now in the government’s hands and has passed the initial inspection (your verification info is correct, dependents haven’t already been claimed by someone else, etc.).

Can a 20-21 tax return be submitted but not received?

Yes I’ve a 20-21 Return – no SEISS claimed an no transfer of marriage allowance – submitted via Iris. Showing as not received. Its only been a week but annoying when client needs tax overview for lender. Yes. With the exception of two clients where HMRC have updated the details, the other six clients have not been updated.

Why is my SA tax return not submitted?

In 20 years of covering SA, there have been a few administrative glitches, but generally the back-end computers have handled the workload. The appearance of apparently random drop-outs at this stage is not a good sign, particularly if you throw in the other issues that AW members have been raising about support line staffing and knowledge levels.

Can a tax return be submitted but not processed?

I have had five cases so far where the tax return was submitted online but has not been processed by HMRC. Each case found by accident when client called for something else & I had to check HMRC records. You need to phone HMRC (I know!) & they have to get back office to cut return across – takes about a week.
