When did I submit my tax return to HMRC?

Writer Nathan Sanders

Tax return submitted using 3rd party software on 6 Jan, the date HMRC received it. Anyone have any ideas why HMRC don’t have it logged as submitted? Please login or register to join the discussion.

Why is my tax return not showing up?

Would not want the IRS to state they never received any of my forms a couple of months from now, especially because I am expecting a refund with this return. Should I just wait it out given the delays with COVID? Would appreciate any input! Thanks

How long does it take to get your tax refund if you mailed it in?

Initially, it can take up to 4 weeks to get your refund if you mailed in your return from the IRS. See the link here: Since it has been 3 months, you will need to reach out to the IRS directly. To do this and to get through to someone, see the instructions below:

Can a tax return be submitted but not processed?

I have had five cases so far where the tax return was submitted online but has not been processed by HMRC. Each case found by accident when client called for something else & I had to check HMRC records. You need to phone HMRC (I know!) & they have to get back office to cut return across – takes about a week.

What happens if you do not pay enough tax to HMRC?

You could still be paying too much or too little tax. For example, if you got a company benefit or pay rise that HMRC did not know about, and so they did not update your tax code. If you have not paid the right amount at the end of the tax year, HMRC will send you a P800 or a Simple Assessment tax calculation.

What happens if you dont file tax return for 4 years?

That means you cannot self assess. HMRC will need to issue discovery assessments for any year older than 4 years. Failing to send a return in on time is almost certainly careless, so they can assess a further two years. However, they need to be able to prove deliberate behaviour before they can assess any more years.

When did my client not file a tax return?

I have a client who has not filed a tax return since 2005. I have extracted all of the information from him (as best I can) and prepared tax returns for the last 7 years. He does owe tax for all of the years. I am aware that the filing window (of 4 years) has now closed.
