Does Social Security talk to the IRS?
Some Social Security beneficiaries may have received a recent EIP if they filed a tax return with the IRS. Please note that only the IRS pays EIPs, even to Social Security and SSI recipients. Please do not contact the Social Security Administration (SSA) with questions about EIPs.
Can IRS take your SSDI?
The IRS can utilize the automated Federal Payment Levy Program or use a manual levy. This applies to Social Security disability program payments, retirement payments, and survivor payments. However, the IRS cannot garnish lump-sum death payments, children’s benefits, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Filing for Social Security disability benefits without a strong work history is more difficult, but not impossible. While the SSA does require that you have worked, earned income, and paid into FICA in order to qualify for SSDI, the work requirements are not as stringent as you may think.
When to file for Social Security disability if you have an EOD?
If you think your disability onset date (EOD) can be proven to be far back enough, or that you might be eligible for disability benefits through the SSI program, don’t hesitate to file for disability benefits with the Social Security Administration (SSA). The SSA will decide whether you qualify for SSDI, SSI, or both.
