Can companies call you on Sunday?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has previously said that collection calls on Sundays were inconvenient, but more recently decided that Sunday calls are not FDCPA violations. But, Sunday calls are prohibited if you let the debt collector know that you don’t like Sunday calls and they are inconvenient to you.

How often can a creditor call you?

Federal law doesn’t give a specific limit on the number of calls a debt collector can place to you. A debt collector may not call you repeatedly or continuously intending to annoy, abuse, or harass you or others who share the number. You do have a right to tell the debt collector to stop calling you.

What hours can creditors call you?

Debt collectors can only contact you by phone between 7.30am and 9pm on weekdays, or between 9am and 9pm on weekends. Face-to-face contact can only be made between 9am and 9pm each day. There are also limits on the number of times they can make contact: three calls, messages or letters a week or 10 a month are allowed.

Can companies call after 9pm?

Generally, debt collectors cannot call you at an unusual time or place, or at a time or place they know is inconvenient to you and they are prohibited from contacting you before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m. If your employer does not allow you to receive personal calls at work you should let the debt collector know that.

Is it illegal for creditors to call you on Sunday?

While Sunday calls do not automatically violate the FDCPA, they are prohibited if the collector knows that Sunday is not a good day for you to receive collection calls. To let the debt collector know, simply tell the collector that Sunday is not a convenient time for you to receive calls.

Can debt collectors call you after you tell them not to?

Once a debt collector receives your letter, it may not contact you again except to: Tell you there will be no further contact. Advise you that it or the creditor may take other specific actions it is legally allowed to take, such as a lawsuit against you.

The time limit is sometimes called the limitation period. For most debts, the time limit is 6 years since you last wrote to them or made a payment. The time limit is longer for mortgage debts. After the time limit has passed, the debt might be ‘statute barred’ – this means you don’t have to pay it.
